Dr. Kristin J. Carothers

Psychologist, PhD

Dr. Kristin J. Carothers is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Atlanta and New York. She also provides telehealth services in various states under PSYPACT legislation. Specializing in clinical child psychology, she has extensive expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral interventions, particularly Behavioral Parent Management Training.


Dr. Carothers earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University and her Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Columbia University Medical Center and a post-doctoral fellowship in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) at St. John’s University’s Child H.E.L.P Partnership.



Her professional experience includes serving as a psychologist in the School-Based Mental Health Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and as a Senior Psychologist at the Child Mind Institute’s ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center. She has also held positions as an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at the Georgia School for Professional Psychology and as a Juvenile Forensic Psychologist at the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.


Dr. Carothers is currently in private practice at Peachtree Integrated Psychology and serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Morehouse School of Medicine in the Child & Adolescent Fellowship Program. While she primarily provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children, adolescents, and adults, she also offers co-parenting and reunification therapy for families experiencing high conflict.


Her expertise has been featured in prominent outlets including Fox News, CNBC, New York One News, Understood.org, and The New York Times.

Dr. Carothers serves as a media consultant and expert contributor for Understood for All. She also sits on the boards of Our Minds Matter (OMM) in Washington, DC, Trinity School in Atlanta, GA, and the Georgia Psychological Foundation (GPF).

Race & Social Justice

Dr. Carothers engages parents, youth, and educators in discussions on understanding the impact of race and social inequality on mental health.
